City of Atlanta Department of City Planning, Office of Buildings, Arborist Division.
Buckhead follows City of Atlanta rules. A permit is required for hardwood trees 6 inches DBH or larger and pine trees 12 inches DBH or larger, measured 4.5 feet above ground.

Special circumstances to confirm
- No permit is required for a tree that has already fallen. A standing dead, dying or hazardous tree requires inspection. For an actively falling tree, call the Arborist Division; if there is no answer, leave a message and follow up the next business day with photos for an after-the-fact permit.
- Projects affecting trees require an arborist meeting before application under the June 25, 2025 procedure.
